Nendo’s Thin Black Lines
Description trendland
Favorite and devoutly-followed Japanese creative collective Nendo is about to stage its first solo UK exhibit during next week’s London Design Festival, presented in two parts: at the Saatchi Gallery and by Phillips de Pury & Company’s London Headquarters. True to form, Nendo’s new series, called Thin Black Lines, turns everyday objects upside-down, with a line of 29 minimal furnishings made from steel and inspired by Japanese calligraphy. Each piece forms the bare, yet striking, outline that remain after simplifying paintings of plants and animals.

Koloro Desk | a dollhouse workspace by Torafu Architects
Description spoon-tamago
Torafu‘s latest work is the koloro desk and stool, a customizable workspace and, what is to be, the first in a series of products for decorative plywood manufacturer Ichiro. The desk, which resembles a dollhouse, also happens functions like one. It comes with windows in various locations that can be opened and closed to adjust the level of privacy. There are also spaces for lighting, potted plants, and even a windowsill that can be used for display or storage purposes.
It reminds me a bit of the work of Kawamura-Ganjavian, who’ve also come up with various solutions for maintaining privacy in open working environments. See Deskshell or, for maximum privacy, Ostrich.

Rising Table makes a great case for revival of transformable furniture
Description designbuzz
Storage friendly furniture has never really gone out of fashion ever since it made a grand entrance in the 1960’s. The style was pushed into the background when the real estate boom across the world encouraged home owners to buy bigger homes and bigger fixed set pieces of furniture, though it is making a comeback with an increasing number of people relocating to smaller living spaces thanks to the global economy going down the pooper. The Rising Table Concept also echoes the modern need for furniture to be both transformable as well as easy to set up since the modern apartment dweller does not have the time to fuss with instruction manuals or pay a handyman to set a table up for them.

COSTUME COLLECTION BY JONGHO PARK
Description originale
South Korean designer Jongho Park’s latest project is this ‘Costume Collection’ of furniture pieces.
Playing with archetypes and familiar furniture forms, Jongho’s series of seating and lighting is also not quite what it seems.
“People enjoy abundance and safety from familiarity. But, the familiarity feeling also gives us the monotonous feeling and boredom at the same time.” Jongho explains.
So to combat this, Jongho has utilised unexpected materials for the chairs, lamp and small stools; the display stand of the chair, and the stool is manufactured in iron, but made to look like wood.
Fabric patterns and wood grain patterns, made using lasers, trick the eye here.
We do like a nice surprise…

Hoof Tables
Description samuelwilkinson
The main inspiration for the Hoof tables starts from the foot detail. I have always loved the painted wooden chairs that have the end of the legs left as natural wood so that the paint doesn’t chip off if kicked or knocked. The leg ends of the table are sharpened at the foot – like a horse’s hoof is trimmed before it is shod. This detail has derived from continuous exploration and development of production techniques. The fine edge of the tables is created from the soft chamfer being on the top and bottom. This also gives the tables a tactile feel and clearly shows that the tables are made from solid wood. The foot detail is created by reversing the usual production process; most furniture details, which have a painted section and a natural part, are assembled, masked off, and then painted. Hoof is painted first, then cut back to produce the unique detail.

Ingenious Shelving Units: Hole in the Floor Series by Raw Edges
Description freshome
The collaboration between Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay led to the founding of Raw Edges, a design studio with a clever and original portfolio. For today we chose to present their project called Hole in the Floor and consisting of a series of ingenious shelving units. Based on the idea of things unexpectedly ending (in a physical sense), the unusual furniture pieces resemble vertical drawers which were literally sliced at the bottom. The impression a viewer gets is-as the name of the project suggests- that of a hole in the floor. We not only appreciate the originality of this idea, but its simplicity and elegance as well. The shelves come in a variety of sizes and can be used in both traditional and modern interiors. No mention about their cost on the official website of the designers, but if you are interested in making a purchase, try to contact them here.

“Fjaril is a drawer. It expands rhythmically and during this movement changes itself from a simple box into a functional sculpture.”

Stitch and Wooly by Susanne Westphal
Description designmilk
These Stitch and Wooly chairs by Susanne Westphal are her final graduate project from the University of Art and Design Burg Gibiechenstein. She asked the question “Why do we have less time then ever before, although we invented time saving things?”
The unfinished chairs are a reminder that we need to take time with things so each chair gets completed by the user. Using wool, one can stitch and upholster the chairs, and the more time that is spent on them, the more comfortable and attractive they are. By taking your time constructing the chairs, they teach you to slow down, relax, and unwind.

Wooden QR Code Stool
Description knsrtct
What happens when a two dimensional QR-code is transformed into a three-dimensional structure? This is the question that German designer Elena Belmann asked herself before she created this wooden QR stool. Then she pondered “Would this change its information content?” only one way to find out! She created a wood sculpture that is part architectural form and part scannable data. This wooden structure is also a lamp. Awesome!
