Light Stencils in Vietnam

Description thingsthatmakeyouhappy

Here’s an awesome double photography series called” Enlightened Souls” by Fabrice Wittner. An amazing light stencils technique that he used first in Canterbury NZ, a few month ago, and now in Vietnam. A sort of long exposure photos where Wittner uses large cut stencils to make these really clever and poetic silhouettes.

Here some explanation about these two projects:

After the 6.3 quake occurred in Canterbury NZ, people were involved to help their neighbors, to rebuild houses, to clean the street or to make donations. I wanted to contribute by doing something too, giving what I was able to, some of my time and skills.
The whole process took a bit of time to be complete. I started taking portraits in Christchurch’s streets, turned them to real sized stencils before going in the streets again to paint them in my frame.

Following the first opus of Enlightened Souls in Christchurch, I went to cut my stencils out in Hanoi, Vietnam. I didn’t expected to work on a second series of characters during my journey in Hanoi, but my schedule went lighter than I thought and I needed to find an occupation

La Co(o)rniche Hotel Designed by Philippe Starck [France]

Description trendland

“One of the strongest, most beautiful, most poetic, most surreal, and most powerful place in nature.” Philippe Stark – La Co(o)rniche Hotel is an extraordinary location. Key landmark in the Pilat-Plage district in Pyla-Sur-Mer near Bordeaux, the vantage point over the Arcachon basin, backing onto the highest dune in Europe, it is suspended between sea and sky, nestling between sand and pines. This former 1930s hunting lodge in the heart of a preserved site, evokes the Golden Age and the invention of the Côte d’Argent.

A luxury family and essential features the new look of the hotel, that Philippe Starck has helped: the terrace, bar and restaurant have a breathtaking decor and minimalist but at the same time warm. The neo-Basque interior, strongly backed by the very first manufacturer Louis Gaume, has been maintained to avoid losing the magical aura that surrounds the whole building.

Dark wood, frescoes, period furniture contribute to strengthen this particular and evocative atmosphere, thanks to safe stay out of the ordinary. However, some hint of modern style is recognizable, especially in the bedroom, where materials such as glass and steel, blend well with a pure white, common to both intent to the most surreal contemporary era.

French electronic music duo Justice has just released the visual to their latest single “On’n’On” directed by Alexandre Courtes. Albert Camus

Description emptykingdom

On November 7th 1913 one of the most absurd men took his first breath, the ethical Albert Camus. Personally this author, labeled philosopher, absurdist was of my biggest influences in a post-modern existentialist era. Celebrating his birth, I’ve laid down a handful of his personal quotes and some from his books.

He was most well known for his novel ‘The Stranger’ where ideas and themes revolved around nihilism, stoicism and existentialism. Interestingly, Camus never considered himself an existentialist, philosopher or an atheist. Most people felt one way or another about his writings especially as the generations started to shift.

From the 40s, 70s and through our current modern society, we’ve perceived his thoughts contrastively. For me his ideas on searching truth, humanity, nihilistic manners, laid this real honest composure. Ironically, he died in a car accident on January 4th, 1960. Happy Birthday.

“If the world were obvious, art would not exist.”

“There is no sun without shadow and it is essential to know the night.”

“An intellectual is someone whose mind watches itself.”

“It is not your paintings I like, it is your painting.”

“Charm is a way of getting the answer yes without asking a clear question.”

“He who despairs of the human condition is a coward, but he who has hope for it is a fool.”

“There is but one truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy.”

“When the soul suffers too much, it develops a taste for misfortune.”

“Should I kill myself, or have a cup of coffee?”

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

“Now, more than ever.”

Jean-Michel Carre, the French Chocolatier of the American Riviera.

Description coolhunting

Buddhas, lips and turtles abound in a California chocolatier

While walking along the shady tiled walkways to the quaint shops of La Arcada in Santa Barbara, a peek inside Chocolats du CaliBressan reveals a candy case filled with tiny turtles, ruby lips, glistening buddhas and classic truffle spheres.

After studying at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Pâtisserie, Chocolatier Jean-Michel Carré moved to California with his wife (who was originally from the Santa Barbara area) to focus his career on his love of chocolate. Now at Chocolat du Cali Bressan in Carpinteria and downtown Santa Barbara, Carré spends his days making ultra-rich handmade truffles and bon bons.

Among the store’s most popular items are the French Bisous—red lips made with dark and milk ganache chocolate with tangerine—and the Buddha Beauty, a truffle amulet filled with soft salted caramel that comes with instructions to lick his belly for good luck. Influenced by 30 years in the kitchens of restaurants in France, Switzerland and the U.K., each day the self-professed “passionate chocolatier” can be found experimenting with surprising ingredients like avocado, curry, Sichuan pepper, balsamic vinegar and lotus—a special request of the local estate and public garden Lotusland.

If we had to pick a favorite, it would be the La Arcada Turtle with cajeta, Mexican milk caramel—it was almost too cute to eat, but after biting off the tasty little legs of the shiny green treat, an intense craving for more took over. Time to plan another visit very soon. Chocolats du CaliBressan’s La Arcada location is located at 1114 State Street, #2; there’s also a store at 4193 Carpinteria Avenue, Suite 4 in Carpinteria, CA.

Max Boufathal ‘The Fighting Solar Bros’

Description smileinyourface

Tres spectacular supernatural sculptures by French artist Max Boufathal.

They’re named ‘The Fighting Solar Bros’ and impersonate the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye and James Brown. The masks, bones and the golden muscles made of steel, plaster, black shoe polish and plastic bags look just amazing and actually pretty scary. Great.
